In a notable recognition of design excellence, Mirka Ltd’s POLAROS RP 600 rotary polishing machine received a 2026 Red Dot Award for Product Design, honoring its ergonomics, finishing performance, and usability. Released less than a year ago, the POLAROS RP 600 features advanced RPM control technology, a distinctive low-profile design, and digital connectivity through the myMirka app.

The machine’s gearless design enables more efficient power delivery directly to the polishing surface while operating much more quietly than traditional machines. Its low-profile design allows users to get close to the polishing surface, enhancing stability and reducing vibrations, while Ramp Up and Ramp Down functions prevent splashing and surface damage through pressure monitoring and RPM control during start-up.

“The success of the POLAROS, and what we are most proud of, is the gearless design. It took a lot of time to get right, but once we did, the results speak for themselves: a more efficient use of the power that is directly targeted at the surface and a much quieter machine,” said Simon Bäck, senior development engineer at Mirka. The POLAROS RP 600 is manufactured in Finland with locally sourced components, and its modular construction simplifies servicing and extends product life.

AI-Powered Automation Gains Momentum

The push toward automation and artificial intelligence is accelerating across the industry. Chinese company SpeedBot Robotics has developed the PaintPro Surface Defect Detection and Polishing Repair System, which integrates 3D deflectometry imaging and AI detection technologies to achieve full-process automated online detection and repair of paint defects through multi-robot collaboration. The system features a constant-force floating grinding device and utilizes intelligent path planning to seamlessly connect polishing and repair processes.

Meanwhile, Lianhe Sowell International Group Ltd recently signed a supply agreement to deliver an initial batch of ten AI-powered automotive painting robots to Thailand and the ASEAN region, supporting automotive maintenance, repair, and refinishing services.

“This initial deployment demonstrates growing market recognition of our intelligent painting solutions,” said Mr. Yue Zhu, CEO of the company.

Detailing Industry Gains Global Recognition

The automotive detailing sector continues to gain prominence on the global stage. EQUIP AUTO Paris 2027 will feature a dedicated detailing and automotive cosmetics area for the first time, following a strategic partnership with Formation Detailing. The area will showcase live demonstrations, masterclasses, and a spectacular live restoration of a “barn find” vehicle throughout the exhibition.

In India, RODIM, the BASF-backed leader in advanced Paint Protection Solutions, launched its first exclusive brand store “Perfect Finish” in Faridabad, signaling a major shift toward a technology-driven ecosystem for the country’s automotive detailing industry. The store will also serve as a training center for installers, with plans for a nationwide rollout.
